Founded in 1994

The foundation van Hand tot Hand is founded on 11 November 1994 in Tilburg by Sjaak Berben. The foundation is entered in the register of the Chamber of Commerce Midden-Brabant under number 41098246.

The foundation van Hand tot Hand has been active in Sri Lanka since 1994. Looking back on those years a lot has changed. The start was to build a house for a family with a severely handicapped son who lived in a wooden house with a corrugated roof. The gratitude of the family was huge: from the first moment, the father deployed his best employees to the Foundation for free to assist and give advice until the moment he suddenly died in August 1997. The 23 year old brother of the handicapped son promised to continue his father's work. Mister Shehan Tissera has been our contact in Sri Lanka for more then 12 years now. He worked for a long time in a hotel and had two days off per week. He spended that time completely to help our foundation. Meanwhile he has his own taxi company and provides tours around the island. During his free time Shehan takes care, still as a volunteer, of the realisation of a lot of projects. With unlimited dedication he knows exactly to gain that information which we need to be able to do our work as good as possible.
In the last few years we spread our wings further and further over the island. In the mean time we have confidant contacts with principals of schools, education inspectors, leaders of homes and other autorities, who help us to realize projects. There is enough perspective to continue our work with all these people.
