Founder: Sjaak Berben

On Thursday 15 December 2005 Sjaak Berben, founder and fieldworker of our foundation, has deceased. Our inspirator is not around anymore.

We were enraptured on 10 December 2005 because after two years he was finally back from Sri Lanka. That feeling lasted only a few days.

Sjaak was the founder of the foundation and he has done an enormous amount of good work. It cost him a lot of energy that things were made very difficult for him in the last two years. But during his last week he has said multiple times that he wanted to go back again. It wasn't meant to be! We are glad that he was able to live at home a few days and that he was able to meet a lot of his beloved. He was happy, those last few days. We wish Sjaak the peace that he deserves and we hope to continue the work of the foundation in his spirit together with our sponsors.

Sjaak founded the Foundation van Hand tot Hand  in 1994 to ease the sorrow that he saw in Sri Lanka. It became his life work to offer a better future to the children in Sri Lanka. He became a fieldworker of the foundation himself and often stayed in Sri Lanka for 6 months a year, the place where he felt at home. He started a lot of projects and knew how to make people in his environment enthousiastic to support his work.

The members of the board of the foundation van Hand tot Hand decided together after he died to continue the work in the spirit of Sjaak and to fullfill his life work.

Bohome Estuti Sjaak!! On behalf of all the children and families which we were able to help thanks to you! Rest in peace.
