Brother Thomas St Vincent's Home in Magonna sent us an email asking us if we could provide new lockers and musquito nets for the boys. In the summer of 2007 we visited the dormitory of the boys and we were shocked by the poor condition of the furniture. The lockers were nearly split, and often lacked a door. The beds were very improper and patched. Several beds had nails sticking out of them and under one bed post an old shoe was pushed to strengthen the bed. Father Justin had just found a sponsor for the construction of a new property and construction was in full swing. We decided to hold off on the purchase of the new interior until the new building would be ready. In July 2008 we noted that the construction was not yet ready. Father Justin had often complained to the contractor. Together we had to conclude that the quality of construction was not very good. According to the contractor, the new building would be finished before the end of 2008. For more than 50 boys we want to buy a new bed with mattress and mosquito net and a new locker. That means we spend € 70 for each child. On January 14th 2009 we were invited to open the new dorm for the boys. When we arrive, we first look at the new building. It looks great, the beds are placed, together with the pillows, pillowcases and towels we purchased earlier. But together with Father Justin Shehan had to work hard to installe the mosquito nets. Now the boys have their own storage cabinet with a mirror. They all help to cover the beds and put the pillows neatly into the covers. After a nice cup of tea we took a lot of photos to bring back to the sponsor. After a small lunch, we end a beautiful day with a basketball game which the boys play wearing their new uniforms.
