2008.33 - Electricity for a family in Giritale Print E-mail

In Giritale, a poor region in eastern Sri Lanka, we have given our support for many years to schools and private families who need help desperately. The need of families to be connected to the electricity network is great.
To light the house with petroleum is expensive, indoor air is unhealthy and the risk of fire and burns is high. Often the people  can make pipelines, a switch and some lighting construction themselves.
When the electricity company gives its approval they are allowed to be connected. The costs for connecting can’t be paid by most families. Thanks to various sponsors, we have been able to achieve this connection for many families.

In this family we sponsor two of the four children. They study hard. Both sisters are currently doing A-levels.
They still study by candlelight. Their house is surrounded by rice fields, where it can blow pretty hard. Electricity will give this family many extra options.
