At this family we have come for many years. The grandmother’s house is far from the road. In the house lives a son with his family too and her daughter with her children are staying there with great regularity. The family fulfils a social role in the area. They help others wherever they can. We have taken in the daughter and her family  in our sponsorship projects. The family never asked us for anything, but they are very grateful. They share their happiness with everyone around them.
When we were invited after a harvest festival on a rice field to drink tea with them and have a bite to eat, I walked around the house in the afternoon and saw that the roof consists of pieces of plastic and broken plates. Once inside, I was treated with fresh honey that was collected from a  bee nest outside. It tasted delicious and so I received this bottle in my hands when I left. I saw that this man wanted to ask me something more. Very shy he asked me if I could take care of some new roof plates. I knew this question was coming, so Jan and I decided to take him directly to the store to buy roof plates for him. After some measuring work with a stick of 30 cm and a climb on the roof, he knew exactly what he needed. It is nice to get a picture from Shehan two months later showing a proud family with a nice roof on their house.
