2008.45 - A pitch for the cricket teams in St Vincent's Home in Maggona Print E-mail

St Vincent's Home is a home where we regularly pay a visit at various sponsor children and projects. This year we were warmly welcomed again and invited for a cup of tea. My attention however was at the very large sports field where the boys where thoroughly exercising. There was football, a basketball game, and there were two teams playing a cricket match. However, this was just played on the grass. After a little while, the sports teacher joined us, with the question whether we could provide for a cricket mat. After some discussion we agreed that we would support this with the agreement that we would witness the first match. To play sports is important for these boarding school boys. They can express their creativity. The coaches are trying to encourage the boys and provide new challenges. The pitch is important for a good game. It makes them feel they play a worthy game. We understand how important the mat is for them and are glad we have a sponsor to buy the mat.
A few weeks later we got the call that the mat was there and we were invited to the opening. With  a striking ball, I ‘opened’ this cricket mat.
