During our visit in 2009 we visited a poor family. We left at around 16.00, with Sr. Kanthi, to a sponsor family in Ja Ella. We visit the family R because we need to make pictures of our sponsor child. We haven’t talked to this family in the latest period, so we had to do that now. Of course we didn’t come with empty hands, on the way there we bought some life supplies like rice and soap. The best donation for a poor family. Mother (28) and son of 4,5 are happy with the supplies. We visited her house and our heart broke. She got a house from another foundation, but house? It looked like an unfinished shell. The other houses in the street are plastered, her house was a concrete block. The ground of her courtyard isn’t made higher, so the house and the courtyard are lower than the rest of the street. Her house is on the other bank of the river opposite a swamp, so around the building it’s squelchy, wet and it smells bad. The neighbours got no moisture problem, no, they pump the water of their courtyard into the courtyard of our sponsor family! And when it’s going to rain, it’s running through her house. And that for a woman, which has already experienced so much sorrow from abusing and social isolation.

Jan and I are going through a hard time. How can you leave a woman and her children behind like this. We just don’t understand. We told them that we are going to figure out how we’re going to help them. Improve her house, but also care for the water problem. That’s what we first need to solve.

This project was possible through the support of the team of "Applicationmanagers" at Achmea AOV.
