Children in homes seldom have a day out. The available budgets are often inadequate to give the children the necessary care. Homes depend on gifts from the neighbourhood or donations of NGOs. The foundation Van Hand tot Hand has given the Bosath Girls' Home in Hingurakgoda support for several years now. A few years ago we provided a new roof and later we could renovate the interior. Last year we achieved a washing-place for the girls. Therefore they don't need to wash themselves in the little canal along the street. They are very happy with this little bit of privacy.

Two years ago we made contact with the Boys' Home in Hingurakgoda. The living conditions were far below the level of those in the girls' home. It is difficult to understand the policies here and therefore it is not easy to give structural support. We now visit the home regularly and try to give the necessary support.

During their trips our volunteers Peter and Netty visit this home on behalf of the foundation. Familiar faces, people who don't only come to give material support but who are genuinely interested in these children.

So it is really great to treat these kids on an outing. Thanks to the gifts from all the visitors to the stable of Bethlehem of the Balvers' Family this could be made possible. The photos speak for themselves.

From Peter and Netty's travel journal:

We rented a big bus and it was ready in front of the girls' home at 10.00. Beautiful and elated with joy the girls got into the bus and we drove to the boys' home while we were singing. When the whole group was complete we went to Polonaruwa, where we visited old ruins and temples. On our way we pick up our lunch and we go for a big picnic at a big lake. We gave the children a beautiful day and again it was an experience to never forget.
