Naween is a disabled boy of 15 years who is sponsored by Jeanne for several years now. He is a very cheerful and smart guy. He lives in the same village as Indika, an old friend of the foundation. As a child he had polio and he walks with crutches since. Well, you can barely cal it walking. He has such severe contractures of his legs that he cannot stand on them. He thus bears most of his body weight on his shoulders as he walks. It is impossible to sustain for a long time. Naween is getting more and more immobile. A major concern for his parents. They asked us if we could do something for Naween.
Frans went to a surgeon in Kandy with this little man, his mother and Indika. He spoke extensively with this doctor and a treatment plan was drawn up. That meant that Naween was scheduled for surgery about 1 week later. In short, it means that the tendons that cause the contractures, are cut so he can stretch his legs again. After the operation he had to spend a few weeks in plaster. Last week the plaster was removed and now he is starting his rehabilitation. He will probably be admitted into a health center. He will always remain disabled, but Naween will benefit because he can support his legs again. Frans has left an advance to the first costs. Indika will take care of payments and also keep Frans informed.
Naween is home again. Back from the hospital. Both legs in plaster.
